Protect Your Eye Health with Comprehensive Exams
Eye exams test more than your visual acuity (how clearly you see). A comprehensive eye exam includes a thorough evaluation of your eye health, allowing your optometrist to assess for eye diseases, determine how well your eyes work together, and address any visual discomfort you may be experiencing.
At Orangeville Optometric Centre, we provide comprehensive eye exams for adults, as well as exams tailored to children’s eye care needs. As part of your eye exam, we’ll use diagnostic technology to capture images of your eyes and monitor your eye health.
Keeping your eyes healthy and your vision clear is our priority. Book an eye exam with us today.

When Do I Need an Eye Exam?
Most adults should have at least one eye exam every 2 years; however, many people, such as individuals living with diabetes, hypertension, and other systemic conditions, should visit their eye doctor more frequently.
We will recommend an appropriate examination schedule based on your visual needs and any specific health or ocular conditions you have.
What Happens During an Eye Exam?
Before your appointment, you’ll be asked to complete an online questionnaire detailing your personal information and health history. We also ask that you bring your current glasses and/or contact lenses with you, along with a list of any medications you are currently taking.
When you arrive at the clinic, you’ll begin your appointment by checking in with our front desk team. If you’re a new patient, we will confirm that your pre-appointment forms were received. If you’re a returning patient, we’ll ask you some questions to confirm your information is up to date. If you’re early for your appointment, you can browse our glasses collection.
Once you’ve checked in, our team will get you ready for pre-testing. This phase of your eye exam includes all the diagnostic tests and imaging that we complete for a comprehensive assessment of your eye health. We’ll provide these tests based on any symptoms you’ve experienced, risk factors for various eye conditions, and routine monitoring, so your exam may look a little different from year to year.
After pre-testing, you’ll meet with your optometrist to review the results of your diagnostic testing and provide you with guidance on any necessary next steps. Then, they’ll assess your current prescription and let you know if it is recommended to update your eyewear. During your appointment, your optometrist can also provide advice on keeping your eyes healthy.
If it is recommended that your prescription be updated, you’ll have time to meet with an eyewear stylist at the end of your appointment. They’ll provide personalized advice and guidance to help you select new frames and personalize your lenses based on your needs. If you also wear contact lenses, your exam will include a thorough evaluation and fitting.
Common Vision Problems For Which We Assess
During your comprehensive eye exam, we’re looking for more than signs of eye disease. We’re also checking to make sure your prescription is up-to-date, that your eyes are working well together, and that your tear film is balanced and healthy.
Vision problems can often be accompanied by additional symptoms, such as headaches, eye fatigue, neck or shoulder pain, and light sensitivity. By addressing the cause of your discomfort, whether it be an outdated prescription, dry eye disease, or an eye misalignment, we can help you see clearly and comfortably again.
Also known as ocular surface disease, dry eye is a common condition that affects many Canadians. The condition can cause your eyes to experience a stinging, burning, or gritty feeling in your eyes that distracts from your daily life. There are several causes for dry eye disease, all of which lead to an imbalance in the tear film and improper lubrication of your eyes.
Depending on the cause of your dry eye symptoms, we can recommend a treatment plan tailored to you. This may include in-office treatments, ocular hygiene home care products, or a combination of both.
Refractive errors impact the way that light is focused on your retina, causing images to appear blurry. Myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism are all forms of refractive errors.
Beyond causing blurry vision, uncorrected or undercorrected refractive errors can cause symptoms such as headaches, eye strain, tension, and fatigue. Refractive errors can be corrected with prescription glasses, contact lenses, or laser vision correction surgery.
Presbyopia is a type of refractive error that usually occurs around age 40–45. It can also be referred to as age-related farsightedness and affects near vision.
Presbyopia can make it difficult to read text in books, on your phone, or on packaging labels. If you find yourself needing to pull your phone away to read messages, you may be experiencing presbyopia.
We can address changes to your prescription caused by presbyopia by introducing a personalized lens design or contact lens called a progression (or multifocal), which will give you clear vision at both near and far distances, and everywhere in between.
Digital eye strain, also known as computer vision syndrome, can cause symptoms such as blurry vision, dry, irritated, or tired eyes, double vision, or a headache after prolonged digital device use.
If you notice discomfort after spending time on your phone or computer, you may be experiencing digital eye strain. We can help you address this through lifestyle recommendations, personalized eyewear prescriptions, and specialty eyewear, such as computer glasses, designed to reduce this strain.
Caring for Your Eyes Through Routine Eye Care
Your eye health is an important indicator of your overall health. In addition to evaluating the health and comfort of your eyes, your optometrist can often detect signs of other systemic health concerns, including diabetes, heart disease, certain cancers, and hypertension during a comprehensive eye exam.
Scheduling regular eye exams should be a part of your overall preventive health plan. If it has been more than 2 years since your last eye exam, or you’re dealing with eye discomfort or frequent headaches, book an appointment with us today.

I have been seeing Dr Leblanc for years and now bring my son to see him as well. He is such a pleasure to deal with and although we only see him yearly, he remembers what’s going on in our lives and asks questions. He’s the best!
The reception staff are great as well!
– Trina
I’ve been going here for years. The staff are extremely helpful and very friendly. I especially find they answer all my questions and any concerns that I may have regarding eye care or even the right lenses to choose from. It’s always a pleasure to go there whether replacing my out dated frames or purchasing new frames and lenses for my eye care. They always inform me of specials too so I can add an additional option if desired.

We drove from London for our appointment because they had my fiancé’s files. It was very worth the drive there. They were thorough, professional and friendly. We are very happy with our visit and look forward to returning soon to pick up the four new pairs of glasses!
Thank you to all the staff, Dmytro and Marlene
